Dear Tony
Now that you have acquired majority interest in QPR finally we can begin to focus on the pitch rather than off the pitch as stability appears to be the watch word.
However, while stability is clearly the paramount requirement and from a footballing perspective the need to strengthen the squad as you are doing one word which traditionally gets overlooked at QPR and is always the elephant in the room as far as LM is concerned is Diversity.
On match days all you need to do is stand on South Africa Road or Uxbridge Road and note how an invasion of largely white male QPR supporters arrive from tube stations at Shepherds Bush and White City. However, while there is nothing wrong with supporters who presumably have their roots in the area coming back to support a club what you will not see in similar numbers is Black or Brown faces from surrounding streets or Estates also walk along to Loftus Road and support QPR.
QPR now have fantastic talent and diversity off and on the pitch in you, Amit along with Kamarudin and Rubin as well as the likes of Adel, DJ and hopefully new signings like SWP
and Muslim Armand Traroe. However, sadly the diversity that I mention is not replicated on the terraces as QPR's support base is not coming from the huge Muslim community in West London. The two wards that surround Loftus Road in White City and Shepherds Bush are 30% and 20% Muslim yet the local Muslim community is not supporting QPR in the numbers they should be considering its our local team and has
outstanding Muslim players like Adel Taarabt.
Traditionally QPR has been run as a bit of a White man's club with the local community ignored leading to perhaps one of the smallest number of fans in the Premiership not helped by neighbours like Chelsea and Fulham.
Having outlined the problem, LM suggests that a radical overhaul is required from the Community Team led by Andy Evans. Just as Neil Warnock discovered that the admin team need to brush up on Premiership regulations following the late submitting of Luke Young's transfer similarly the Club need to radically alter its thinking in terms of community engagement. With Eid on Tuesday or Wednesday officially QPR will do nothing and not join the local Muslim community celebrations which has been noted over the years.
QPR's focus has been on dwindling and ageing loyal supporters
whose local Pub the Springbok has recently been in the news for all the wrong reasons. Tony at Lotus
you have shown diversity by introducing a prayer room but nothing of the sort exists at QPR. Despite Gulf Air being a sponsor there is no Halal food on offer for Muslim supporters should they attend a game. While QPR have evangelical Bob Mayo as their Vicar a strange bit of work from St Stephens Church no Imams despite Muslims being on the Board and two fantastic Muslim players. What should also be noted is some of the Christian schools in the area are 50% Muslim and while
Neil Warnock showed fantastic understanding over Tarrabt requirements for Ramadan he had no expertise to call on at the club who understand the faith requirements of Muslims.
You expressed an interest in building the foundations of a strong sustainable and viable Club however, that cannot and will not be done by ignoring the local diverse Muslim community of West London. Indirect Discrimination can take many forms and in QPR's case it has been unintentional but nevertheless going on for years with a tick box approach to local community engagement in favour of a small vociferous but out of date and dwindling white support base.
