Malaysia's anti gay camps

LM as my regular readers will know is particularly fond of Malaysians which is why I've recently become alarmed and concerned at some recent decisions.

The latest peculiar policy involved the establishment of a camp for 60 boys who appeared to be displaying effeminate behavior in order to discourage them from being gay and guide them back "to a proper path in life".

LM has written about gay issues on a number of occasions here and here and I am in complete agreement with the Muslim Malaysian Women's Minister Sharizat Abdul Jalil that singling out these boys at such a young age is traumatising and harmful to their mental health.

  1. As a Malaysian currently studying overseas, I was also shocked when I was informed about this piece of info. And I should let you know that this is a state directive and not nationwide, it's blown out of proportion by the Western media. Our country is a moderate Muslim country, and I hope our PM will put a stop on this soon.
